What are the hardware/software requirements to host the Server product?
- Windows Server 2008 or higher
- Minimum 4GB RAM
- 10 GB hard disk space + sufficient disk space to cover storage of uploaded media files (e.g. photos)
- .NET Framework 4.5.1
- Internet Information Services (IIS) 7 or higher
- IIS must be internet-accessible via a web domain or IP address endpoint on port 80 and/or 443
- A SSL certificate for the web endpoint is strongly recommended.
The certificate MUST be signed by a supported Certificate Authority (CA).
If you do not already have one, you will need to obtain one from a company that issues SSL certificates.
For a list of supported Certificate Authorities, see the comprehensive list at this link.
- SQL Server 2008 or higher
- SQL Server Express is supported
If we’re hosting the platform on our own servers, why do we still have to pay for user licenses?
User licensing is our primary means of recovering value from the large and ongoing investments we make into our app runtimes.
This equation does not change when a client hosts our Server product – we still require fair value for our app technology, through user licenses.
We charge a dedicated fee for the standalone Server product as this reflects the investments and costs involved in maintaining and continuously improving a separate, server-installable version of our platform.
Additionally, granting a client the right to run our platform on their own servers exposes us to higher support risks, since we don’t control their environment.
And as a software business, we also have an implicit intellectual property risk due to our software being hosted beyond of our control.
These are all factors that go into our decision to price the Server product as it is.
So in a nutshell:
User licenses = where we recover value for the investments into the ongoing work of our app runtimes.
Server license = where we recover value for our ongoing work on the stand-alone Server version, along with the associated support and IP risks.
Note: Depending on the number of users of a Server customer, we may offer discounts on the user licenses.
This can be discussed with our sales team or support team directly.
